If you or someone you know has had a Behavior Plan, OADS wants to hear from you!

OADS is looking for input on Behavior Regulations. These are the rules that allow service providers to restrict people’s rights in order to protect the person or people around them.

OADS wants to hear from people who have been affected by these rules. That includes people who had Behavior Management Plans, their families and friends, and anyone else who is interested. They want to learn about how these plans affect the people whose rights are restricted by them.

Things to think about

  • What is good about these regulations
  • What is bad about these regulations
  • Ideas about how to make the regulations better

CAAR (the Coalition Against Adult Restraint) has heard from individuals with developmental disabilities and their families who think that sometimes these plans don’t help people. CAAR is concerned that we don’t know how often people with behavior plans are restrained or their other rights are taken away and that we don’t know if the plans work.

You can tell your story at the OADS Listening Sessions on Behavior Plan Rules – these are happening virtually on Zoom on:

Friday, March 26, 2021

11:30-1 pm

Friday, April 30, 2021

If you need help or want to practice sharing your story, you can talk to Staci Converse at Disability Rights Maine by emailing her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
