The Council is looking for people interested in serving on the Council. The Council accepts applications on an on-going basis. These applications will be kept on file and considered as Council membership vacancies occur.

Job Description: Council Member
Scope of Position
This is a voluntary position. Major responsibilities include serving as a representative of DD Council in the community and participation at Council and Committee meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Commit to serving a two-year term of appointment.
- Attend regularly scheduled Council and Committee meetings.
- Inform Council staff or Committee Chair of attendance plans a minimum of 48 hours in advance of a meeting. Abide by the absentee policy described in the Bylaws.
- Sit on a least one committee.
- Actively participate in all meetings.
- Be on time and do not leave early.
- Be familiar with Robert's Rules of Order.
- Represent the entire community of people with developmental disabilities and their families. Base positions and votes on the best interest of the Council and the people we represent, rather than on outside individual or professional interests.
- Respect other positions, but offer your own when it is different.
- Understand what you are voting on and make your own voting decisions.
- Understand and abide by the Bylaws and policies and process of the DD Council, the DD Act, the State Plan, and other materials related to Council business.
- Be familiar with DD issues and keep up-to-date on related matters, including State activities, changes in the law, and cutting edge thinking in the field.
- Participate in Council planning and the legislative process.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and trainings.
- Take an active role in the learning process, as a teacher and a student. Ask questions and ask for assistance. Let people know when there is a problem or concern.
- Take responsibility for providing creative and reasonable accommodations.
- Assist Council and Staff members to accommodate and educate.
- Inform the Council of any conflict of interest and follow the Conflict of Interest Policies.
